FREE CONCERT IN TIMES SQUARE
WITH BROADWAY PERFORMERS

A Great Day of Music & Entertainment for a Great Cause

Magical Music for Life Foundation is thrilled to present its second annual TUNES IN TIMES SQUARE benefit concert Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on the Broadway Pedestrian Plaza between 46 & 47 Streets in Times Square. This will be a continuous sing-a-thon, with members of the Broadway community, talented children & groups from the tri-state area, and the Magical Music singing groups taking turns on the stage. The goal of the concert is to raise awareness and funds for the production of free, downloadable original songs written especially for children with autism & special needs and to continue the outreach efforts of Magical Music to use music to better the lives of all children.

Last year’s TUNES IN TIMES SQUARE audience numbered in the thousands and the funds raised enabled Magical Music to create their first album, “A Day in the Life of a Child,” as a collection of free downloadable original songs written especially for children with special needs.  Their goal is to provide children of all abilities with music that engages and transforms the way they understand themselves, others, and the world around them. This year’s TUNES IN TIMES SQUARE proceeds will be used to produce more original songs to be available at no charge to serve the specific needs of therapists, parents, and children and as an accessible resource for people everywhere.

Magical Music for Life Foundation was thrilled to present its first Tunes in Times Square benefit concert Sunday, May 6, 2012, in Times Square, between 46th & 47th Streets and Broadway, NYC. The goal of the concert was to raise awareness and funds for the production of a free, downloadable album of original songs written specifically for children with special needs, as well as to foster community spirit, understanding, and goodwill.

The event was a sing-a-thon, where preselected, talented children took turns singing throughout the entire day raising money from pledges they had collected ahead of time (much like running marathons raise funds). Many actors and children from past and present Broadway shows performed, and children from the special needs community also had the thrilling opportunity to share the microphone.

While music is magic therapy for us all, it is especially important for those with special needs. According to Barbara Crowe, past President of the National Association for Music Therapy, "Music can make the difference between withdrawal and awareness.” Studies have shown that children in the autism spectrum respond to music differently than spoken language, hence learning for these children is made easier when words are coupled with rhythm and song.

Magical Music for Life is embarking on a project to create a new collection of original songs written especially for children with special needs. The debut album is going to be centered on the theme, "A Day in the Life of a Child". The music and lyrics are designed specifically to: a) help teach social skills, motor skills, and activities of daily living; b) work on sensory desensitization for auditorily avoidant children; and c) facilitate many facets of language development. This album will become part of a library of songs created to serve the specific needs of therapists and parents in working on developing various skills and as an accessible resource for people everywhere … at no charge.
